Selimiye Mosque is the most important and, at the same time, the most famous historical monument of Edirne - a city located in the European part of Turkey. The mosque was commissioned by Sultan Selim II and was built by renowned architect Mimar Sinan between 1569 and 1575. Selimiye Mosque is considered to be Sinan's finest piece of work and the culmination of Islamic architecture in the Ottoman Empire. The whole complex was inscribed in 2011 on the UNESCO World Heritage List, in recognition of architectural values and harmonious connection of its elements.
It was considered by Sinan to be his masterpiece and is one of the highest achievements of Islamic architecture. I visited there to take some photos from the dome of the mosque with special permissions and photographed this magnificent moment from there during many people became together and praying at the same time. According the Quran the last 10 nights of Ramadan are considered to be some of the best of the year to make pray.
